Cosmetic Peptides

Since 2010 we use a bio-inspired pharmaceutical approach, based on peptides, to scientifically address a target of significant cosmeceutical interest: skin aging.

We choose the collagen degradation pathway as a relevant target for the development of new and original bio-inspired active ingredients.

SA1-III, a Serpin A1-derived peptide. A study funded by the Tuscany Region and performed in collaboration with PeptLab (academic research laboratory of Espikem's founders) led to the development of SA1-III, a short bioactive peptide formally derived from Serpin A1, the physiological inhibitor of elastase, one the enzymes involved in collagen degradation. Cultured human dermal fibroblast treated with SA1-III showed an increase in collagen concentration1, while further studies indicated that the peptide acts as a "protector" of native collagen2.

AAT11RI. Further research activity developed by Espikem in collaboration with PeptLab led to second-generation peptides, described in the patent application WO 2020/245772 A1.

Custom synthesis

Thanks to scientific equipment and qualified peptide chemists, Espikem srl offers a wide range of peptide products such as:

  • single linear peptides (L- and D-amino acids)
  • multi peptide synthesis
  • peptides libraries
  • multi peptides from overlapping study
  • cyclic and branched peptides (disulphide bridges, cyclic through a peptide bond)
  • modified peptides (fluorescein, dansyl, dabcyl, acetyl, formyl, maleimide, fatty acids, amidation, biotin, spacers)
  • MAP Multiple Antigenic Peptides
  • peptides anchored to solid support
